The population of Karnataka is likely to be in the neighbourhood of 55 million at the turn of the country . The Population would be lower if there is less migration than in the recent past and if the acceptance of contraceptives increases steadily and this increase is sustained throughout the period. In that case the net reproduction rate will be very close to 1, indicating replacement level fertility. If the acceptance of contraceptives does not increase significantly fertility rates will not decline much during thr 1990s and the population will be higher.
