Summary: This is the 49th volume of the 'Crime in India' report covering the crimes that occurred in the country in the calendar year 2001. As per the new Juvenile Justice Act, the changes in the age group of the Juveniles effective from April, 2001 have been incorporated in the present report. In addition, the data on cases of death due to negligence under Sec. IPC 304A have also been added. For the first time, district wise information on Crime against Children, Crimes against SC & STs and their crime analysis has been included. Large urban agglomerates have emerged as important centers of crimes. Crimes in 32 large cities (including 9 new cities) that have population of 10 lakh and above as per Census 2001 have been analysed.
