Contents:
Linear programming problem -- Mathematical preliminaries -- Characteristics of an optimal solution -- Simplex method -- Simplex algorithm -- Degeneracy -- Duality -- Transportation problems -- Assignment problems
Summary: This book is intended as an introductory text in linear programming. It covers the major elementary aspects of the subject. Linear Programming has been one of the most important postwar developments in economic history. The present book hopes to give its reader, who does not pretend to be an accomplished mathematician,a broad introduction to the theory of linear programming many constructive and explicit illustrations of definition along with a number of exercises have been added. The sophisticated approaches have been avoided and simple examples are used to illustrate the concepts introduced in the two chapters on Transportation and Assignments. The text provides a smooth and gradual transition from the predominantly problem solving courses to a logical approach, providing the students with a firm foundation for future studies in the subject.
